Melbourne to Mount Buffalo

How to get to Mt Buffalo. The area is a popular year-round destination offering bushwalking trails and camping opportunities in the warmer months and snow skiing in the winter months. Popular spots for enjoying the snow include Dingo Dell and Cresta Valley within the Mount Buffalo National Park.

This route follows the Hume Hwy for most of the way offering several interesting places to take breaks along the way if you don’t mind a small detour.

Fun places to take a break on this route could include the Victorian Railway Workshops Art & Antiques store at Seymour, Fowles Wine at Avenel, Botanical Gardens and Gallery at Benowa, Benalla Aviation Museum, Ned Kelly Museum & Homestead at Glenrowan, Brown Brothers Milawa Vineyard, and Myrtleford for any supplies or ski gear.

Note: There is a sign at the entrance to Mt Buffalo National Park that will alert you as to whether snow chains are required or not. In periods of snowfall, usually July and August, snow chains are normally required to be carried.
